Out-of-home, out of breath: this billboard coughs when smokers walk by

An interactive billboard in Sweden coughs when smokers walk by.

Swedish pharmacy chain Apotek Hjartat has installed a billboard in Stockholm’s Odenplan square which coughs as smokers walk by.

The billboard is equipped with smoke detectors at the popular square. The campaign leverages the season – with many smokers considering quitting as a new year’s resolution – finally offering ads for various nicotine packs and other quit-smoking products.

The ad agency behind the billboard, Akestam Holst specialises in advertisements that react to their surroundings. In 2014 it qatar cell phone database produced a billboard on a metro platform for a hair-care brand with sensors so that the model’s hair appeared to get blown around whenever a train arrived, Fastcoexist reports.

“The purpose was to drive the conversation about this topic, documenting the reactions, encouraging people to live a healthy lifestyle,” Apotek Hjärtat’s Fredrik Kullberg told CNN.

Pepsi Max partners with GoCatch to take Sydneysiders for a ride

GoCatch users in Sydney could find themselves picked up by a Pepsi Max kombi van.

Pepsi Max has announced a partnership with rideshare app GoCatch which gives Sydneysiders using the app the chance to go for a ride in a Pepsi Max kombi van.

This is the latest instalment in Pepsi’s #MaxYourSummer campaign. In December, the branded kombi (pictured, seemingly parked in front of a disabled parking sign) picked up people from some of Sydney’s most ‘notorious public transport pain-points’ and took them on free beach trips.

Two further campaigns will see a competition run in partnership with Pedestrian.tv where one winner and four friends will be chauffeured on a day-long kombi adventure on Australia day, and an Australia Day Pepsi Max Snapchat filter.

The GoCatch Pepsi Max kombi ride promotion will run until 31 January.

“Pepsi Max’s summer campaign has been all about inspiring Aussies to max their summer in ingenious ways. We are excited to bring this to life for our consumers and make some of the pain points of summer more bearable through GoCatch’s technology,” says Tami Cunningham, PepsiCo marketing director.

These disclosures, made after Verizon had already announced the plan to buy Yahoo for $4.8 billion, prompted the telco to reportedly ask for a $1 billion discount, and still have the potential to put a stop to the deal altogether.

Current Yahoo chief executive

Marissa Mayer will remain in the post until the changeover is finalised. Early reports on Twitter after the announcement said she would resign, but it seems she could continue to lead Yahoo under Verizon’s ownership.

Altaba, as an investment company, will not need a full board of directors so will slash the current Yahoo board in half. Mayer is one member who will not be on the Altaba board, along with Yahoo co-founder David Filo.

Yahoo, founded in 1994 was an early internet giant, and was the go-to search engine for many of the web’s first mainstream users before being eclipsed by Google and more recently Facebook and Twitter.

Verizon purchased another fading internet giant in 2016, AOL, and looks to integrate the two to build a stronger foothold in the internet advertising space, which is currently dominated by Google and Facebook.
