Are you about to attend an event or conference in your industry as a speaker? Your speech could be stimulating, interesting, original and stylistically perfect. In short, it could attract the envy of Churchill, Lincoln and even Socrates. And yet... and yet someone, over there, in the audience, will continue to play with his smartphone, or chat with his neighbor. Well, this is to say that even the best of speeches will not be received as such by someone, down in the audience, for the simple fact that that someone will be distracted by something else.
Why am I telling you this in the opening of an article in which I intend to explain the advantages of participating in an event as a speaker ? There is no perfect time, no perfect event, and certainly no perfect audience to start with. If you have the right skills and the necessary resourcefulness to get on stage, then this is your moment, and it would be absurd to delay.
