Types of energy storage

Energy transition and energy storage are two concepts that cannot be understood separately. In previous posts, we have already discussed the importance of energy storage to minimize the energy gap and make renewable energy sources even more competitive in all aspects. Therefore, today we want to delve a little deeper into storage and we are going to tell you in more detail about the types of energy storage that exist and how they work. In this way, you will be able to see how renewable energies are the ideal source of energy for any type of business.

Electricity is a fundamental pillar of modern society and, therefore board members email lists efficient consumption is one of the main challenges for all of us. One of the fundamental solutions is its storage. But how is this achieved?

What types of energy storage exist?
Lithium batteries: This method is the most commonly used for the most common devices in everyday life: smartphones, laptops, external batteries, electric cars, etc. They recharge quickly and store hours of energy. Their ease of adaptation makes them the ideal choice for homes, small businesses, factories and backup power sources.

Hydrogen: This is produced through a process called electrolysis , which uses water and electricity as raw materials, making it a green energy source. However, most of the hydrogen produced worldwide comes from natural gas reforming. It can also be stored in containers for long periods of time. Hydrogen is expected to be the fuel of the future, and for that very reason, its storage is a major advance for the energy sector.

Pumped storage: This technology is used by hydroelectric power plants. It works by pumping water from one reservoir to another (located at a higher altitude) when there is a surplus of energy, thereby increasing the potential energy of the pumped water mass. Likewise, when energy is required, water is allowed to fall from the upper reservoir to the lower reservoir, passing through a turbine where electricity is generated. One of its advantages is its long useful life, which can exceed 50 years.
