Natural gas: the solution to emissions in the transport sector

Post by pappu888 »

Energy consumption in the transport sector is a current concern in any EU country and vehicles powered by renewable energy play a very important role in the decarbonisation of the sector.

Similarly, in types of transport where electrification cannot yet be the solution, such as freight transport, heavy transport, maritime transport or aviation, renewable gases are presented as the viable alternative to achieve climate neutrality objectives. This was pointed out by various experts in the sector who met at ' Green Gas Mobility ', organised by Gasnam, the Iberian association that promotes the use of natural gas and renewable gas.

If your company is related to transport, to a greater or lesser extent, keep chairman email list reading: we are going to tell you about the advantages that you can enjoy if you decide to opt for more sustainable mobility, both for your company and for society.

Green hydrogen: the renewable solution for transport

The importance of renewable gases in mobility is not only due to their environmental benefits, but they also offer benefits in terms of renewable energy penetration, reduction of energy dependency, reinforcement of the circular economy, demand management and also in terms of job creation .

According to the Gasnam association, large 'green' hydrogen production facilities will facilitate access to this energy to all sectors that are difficult to electrify and apply economies of scale.

But what is green hydrogen? Well, it is a method based on the generation of hydrogen using electric current, so if electricity is obtained from renewable sources, energy will be produced without emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

As pointed out by the International Energy Agency, this way of obtaining hydrogen would save 830 million tons of CO2 per year , which originate when this gas is produced using fossil fuels.

Goodbye to conventional fuel

According to the 2020 edition of the BP Energy Outlook report, the use of oil in transport is expected to peak between the middle and end of this decade. However, the same will not happen with natural gas, for which the forecasts in this report are more favourable due to its low level of emissions.
