Through a combination of volunteering in the UK and Nigeria, and supporting participants around the world, Hauwa has rediscovered her passion for helping people plan and achieve their goals. She has been able to bring her 15 years of project management experience to her volunteering and encourages others to consider it as a career.
"When you volunteer, you work with people. Project management is about people. It's about helping people achieve their goals. You can do the same thing through volunteering, and you can learn a lot by meeting people from different places."

Hauwa encourages anyone working in tech to deepen their understanding of project management and working with different teams. “Project management skills are so important no matter what project you’re working on. Over the years, working long hours made me feel disconnected from people. I was stuck in what seemed like a repetitive cycle. Through the people I’ve met in the WordPress community and using my professional skills, I’ve been reminded of my own values and how, as a project manager, I can help others reach new heights or create something valuable and meaningful that others can use.”
In 2022, Hauwa returned to full-time work on national and international projects of impressive scale and her volunteer time on global community development initiatives has been reduced, but she continues to contribute to WordPress, focusing on advancing educational projects and the cultural side of the community.
