SEO (short for Search Engine Optimization) is the practice of optimizing content for search engines in order to increase the quantity and quality of traffic to a website.

A search engine is a website that responds to a query in the search box with a list of links to other web pages that may contain an answer to that very query. Popular search engines include Google, Yahoo!, Bing, and others.

Every search engine has a crawler that turns on from time to time and collects information about all the content that can be found on the Internet.
