The year 2024 is approaching. A new year always means new opportunities, development plans, budgets and goals. Many people in 2024 also open their own business and plan to start with a website or modernize the current one. Is it worth investing in a website in 2024? We invite you to the entry.

What will 2024 bring? No one knows. We can only assume and conduct jamaica business email list some analysis. People who start their business have different development paths to choose from. One of them is investing in their brand's website or investing in social media. Of course, you can also focus on both, but not everyone has the time and opportunity to develop different social media channels at once and take care of the website at the same time.

Social Media or Website?
This is a key question. Social Media is tempting because it allows you to quickly reach potential customers and show your services or products. Focusing on Social Media is the path most willingly and most often chosen by new entrepreneurs taking their first steps in business. It is no wonder - we want to sell quickly and earn even faster.

I won't say whether this is a good or bad path. I can only point out the dangers of "focusing" on social media while relegating the website to the second or third plan.

Let's start with the fact that more and more social media platforms will introduce subscriptions to use the platform. We can already see Meta introducing fees with "no ads" on Facebook, the "Verifed" tag on platform X (formerly Twitter) or a similar feature on Instagram. Such a move or, in 2024, more aggressively persuading users to pay could lead to reluctance to use a given platform, e.g. the one we focused on.

The second issue is the lack of ownership. When you invest in a website – all files, information are yours. No one will stop you from writing about a given topic or introducing other types of services. On social media channels, everything is verified by machines, so-called bots. Sometimes one “bad” word is enough and your account is either limited or completely blocked. All your work put into a given platform goes to the trash, and you are left without sales or customers. Let's not forget that losing social media accounts is very easy. On average, every week we receive messages from different people who ask us for help in recovering their accounts. Very often in this case, nothing can be done.

Another important thing is the multitude of platforms and information overload. Currently, there are many social media channels on the market. Young entrepreneurs may wonder which platform to focus on. It is best to focus on all of them, but we know that this is not feasible. There is always outsourcing of social media accounts, but it generates additional costs. Let's not forget about the high saturation of social media channels. On TikToks, Instagrams and Facebooks, we can already find such a huge amount of information that users are not able to process. In addition, entering this market and showing up on social media is not easy at all. The situation is different with the website and organic positioning.

A website is governed by completely different rules. Of course, it does not provide such a sudden growth (without using paid advertising) as social media, it is characterized by a completely different narrative and development. However, it provides certainty, progressive development and a better position in the future, because once an article is created, it will be positioned all the time.
