The Caja de Burgos Foundation presented the report “Industry in the urban area of Burgos. Socioeconomic and territorial analysis” on Tuesday with the aim of providing the city with a tool to understand the economic reality, anticipate the future and design strategies that seek a more solid and sustainable development of Burgos.
The publication, coordinated by the professor of the egypt number screening University of Burgos Gonzalo Andrés, reviews the main figures regarding productive activities in the city of Burgos and the municipalities in its industrial surroundings. It also includes the most relevant data regarding companies, employment and industrial land, and delves into the study of the socioeconomic and territorial impact that industry has on the urban area.
The figures and statistics used in this research summarise the solid position of the industry in the urban area of Burgos in the context of the Spanish urban network. The province, with more than 35,000 industrial jobs, has established itself as the most industrialised in Castilla y León (accounting for 23% of the total industrial employment in the region); it concentrates 1 in 4 large companies present in the autonomous community and generates 25% of industrial exports. In addition, it is the third Spanish province in terms of contribution to industry in terms of Gross Added Value (30.96%).
First industrial city of Castile and Leon
There are currently 572 companies operating in the industrial urban area of Burgos, with nearly 21,000 employees, and the industrial land covers an area of over 2,400 hectares, creating an urban area with a strong productive specialisation. This is twice the national average in terms of the percentage of active industrial population, industrial land per inhabitant or industrial land in relation to the urbanised area as a whole. The indicators of income and qualification levels are between 20% and 30% higher than the average for the rest of the Spanish urban areas.
