I think the concept of SU is great and the event was absolutely inspiring. The idea of getting an overview of exponential technologies in 10 days or 10 weeks seems great to me, but I am probably not an average manager. What you notice is that the pace is murderous and therefore there is the risk that, especially if the subject is further removed from you, it remains at an 'oh yes, how good that it is possible' level. While the real intention is to solve social problems.

To what extent are you able to take something with you after such an event for your company that you can really do something with? Ray McCauley's presentation was very good, but how many companies can do something with DNA sequencing or even synthetic DNA? According to Yuri van Geest a lot:

“Applications already exist in many forms in the following areas: healthcare (diagnosis, personalization of therapies), agriculture (optimization of crops) and energy (second generation biofuels). In addition, DNA profiles will become increasingly important in recruitment, cosmetics, sports and as a basis for biomaterials with which in principle many physical products can be made. The latter is the biggest revolution”.

I think, as is often the case with innovation, it israel phone data depends on the person himself. SU provides the information and the network and it is up to you to do something with it.

Finally, Singularity University also announces a new competition for radical improvements in Dutch healthcare. According to SU, the reason is that healthcare is changing from corrective to preventive, due to the new technologies mentioned. There are enormous challenges lurking, as the current models for care and finance are outdated and no longer sustainable. They therefore find it important to inspire people to think about new healthcare solutions that will positively influence at least 1 million Dutch people in the coming 5 years.

The assignment is: come up with a unique solution that can radically improve healthcare in the Netherlands, using the aforementioned new exponential technologies (or a combination of these). Examples: higher effectiveness, lower costs, more efficient, new innovative treatments, more human approach, more flexible, etc. The winner will receive a ticket for the 10-week Singularity University (SU) summer program at the NASA campus in Silicon Valley in the United States, worth 30,000 US dollars.

The competition is open to all Dutch people, young and old. The deadline for submitting your idea is March 15, 2013. More information can be found on the Dutch website of Singularity University .
