With its new virtual reality headset, Meta perhaps hopes to calm the waters after the mockery caused a few days ago by the poor graphic quality of its metaverse Horizon Worlds , a virtual universe where the user can carry out all kinds of everyday activities using avatars.

Horizon Worlds landed last week in Spain and France and the promotional image used by Meta to announce the international expansion of its metaverse was the subject of list of a complete list of unit cell phone numbers countless jokes and memes. The promotional image in question, whose "2000s" aesthetic reminded many of Second Life, was an avatar of Mark Zuckerberg with the Eiffel Tower and the Sagrada Familia in the background.

In response to the harsh criticism received for the image, Meta was quick to come out and announce that it would soon introduce improvements to the appearance of virtual avatars in Horizon Worlds and showed, in fact, a new avatar of Mark Zuckerberg with higher graphic quality.

Beyond the virtual reality headset that Meta will launch in October, the company is also working on augmented reality glasses that look like conventional glasses. Known internally as Project Nazare, these glasses will cost around $2,000 and will be able to superimpose highly realistic synthetic images over the user's natural field of vision.
