As Prime Days 2024 kicks off, the smartphone market is gearing up for one of the most competitive times of the year. As millions of consumers hunt for the best deals, online search trends become a reflection of audience preferences and expectations. Semrush , a leading SaaS platform for online visibility and content marketing, has analyzed online searches around the main smartphone brands in Spain and Europe over the past year, providing revealing data on which brands dominate user interest and which are losing ground.
In Spain, Apple remains the undisputed leader in terms of online searches, with 9,015,000 searches accumulated over the last year, which places it far ahead of brands such as Xiaomi and Samsung , with just over four million in both cases. However, what is most surprising is the spectacular growth of the Google Pixel , which has registered a 173.1% increase in searches over the last year, reaching a total of 591,500. This notable increase in interest could be related to Google's commitment to offering high-end devices at competitive prices, such as the Google Pixel 7a, coupled with unique software features, such as direct integration with the Google Assistant and its "pure" Android operating system.
TOP 10 most popular smartphone brands in Spain, according to Internet searches during the last year:
Apple: 9,015,000 searches
Xiaomi: 4,713,000 searches
Samsung: 4,412,000 searches
Huawei: 1,136,000 searches
Oppo: 810,000 searches
Sony: 707,500 searches
Google Pixel: 591,500 searches
Live: 507,500 searches
Honor: 441,900 searches
Nokia: 435,900 searches
Apple, Xiaomi and Samsung: the most established brands
Apple not only dominates the interest of the Spanish market, but also extends its influence to several European countries. In France , Germany , Italy and Portugal , Apple is also positioned as the most searched brand on the Internet. The recent launch of the iPhone 15 , with an average of 600,923 monthly searches, shows that the firm continues to be a benchmark in terms of innovation and expectation among consumers. Improvements in camera, battery and connectivity have driven this new model, although the continued interest in previous generations such as the iPhone 13 , with 382,846 monthly searches, and the iPhone 14 , with 275,231, cannot be ignored .
At Xiaomi, the Redmi Note 12 is the most searched model with 61,900 searches, reflecting the company's strength in the mid-range, offering value for money that is hard to match. However, despite Xiaomi's strong presence, the data indicates that searches for the brand have not grown significantly over the past year.
For its part, Samsung, with its flagship model Galaxy S23 , continues to compete strongly in the premium segment. The 89,462 monthly searches for this device, together with the 84,508 for its Ultra version, confirm that Samsung remains one of the favorite brands for users looking for a balance between technological innovation and premium design. However, as in the case of Xiaomi, growth has remained rather stable.
Huawei and Oppo: What's holding them back?
One of the most notable findings of the analysis is the decline in interest in brands such as Huawei and Oppo, which have seen a drop of more than 30% in searches over the past year. In the case of Huawei, trade restrictions imposed by several countries and the absence of Google services have directly impacted its competitiveness, while Oppo may be facing difficulties in differentiating itself in an increasingly saturated market.
This downward trend suggests that Spanish consumers are opting for brands that offer seamless access to global software and app ecosystems, putting Huawei and Oppo at a disadvantage compared to rivals such as Google and Samsung.
Apple's hegemony with regional nuances
At the European level, the analysis also reveals some interesting albania whatsapp list patterns. As we mentioned, in France, Apple continues to dominate with 15,180,000 searches in 2024, almost twice as many as Samsung (9,007,000 searches). However, the most striking fact is the presence of TCL as the third most searched brand with 5,145,000 searches , which may be related to a strong marketing and distribution strategy in France.
In Italy and Germany, Apple and Samsung are in a constant battle for leadership, although Xiaomi continues to consolidate itself as the third most popular choice. In Portugal, the picture is slightly different, as Xiaomi is closer to Apple in searches, suggesting a greater penetration of the Chinese brand in the Portuguese market.
“Having this detailed information is essential for any technology company that wants to stay ahead in a market as competitive as the smartphone market. Understanding which brands and models generate the most interest allows companies to fine-tune their business strategies, identify growth opportunities, and improve their positioning against the competition ,” says Fernando Angulo, Senior Marketer Research at Semrush . “For example, we are already seeing how Apple’s latest model, the iPhone 16, is one of the most popular launches of the year, with more than 670 thousand searches in the last month alone.”
