AI-powered search engines are on the rise and threaten to dethrone the all-powerful Google, which is also integrating the latest technology into its famous search engine. Meta is also reportedly looking to enter the booming market for AI-powered search engines , which would like to reduce its dependence on Google and Microsoft, The Information reports .

that the Facebook and Instagram parent company is reportedly working on would be able to generate summaries of current events based on queries posed by the user to the Meta AI chatbot.

This chatbot , which is already embedded in Facebook and Instagram, currently relies on Google and Microsoft Bing technology to answer questions about current news and recent events.

According to The Information , a team at Meta has been working for around 8 months on building a database to feed its chatbot with information . The company has also created a database with location data that could compete head-to-head with Google Maps. And last month, Bloomberg reported on Apple's intention to also jump into the search pool (which would imply its "divorce" from Google).

Last week , Meta announced that it had reached a multi-year agreement with Reuters to enable its AI-powered chatbot to access articles from the famous news agency in order to appropriately respond to user questions.

OpenAI, the parent company of the ubiquitous ChatGPT, is also looking to try its hand at search , confirming it is working on an AI-powered search engine dubbed SearchGPT .

Also in the AI-powered search space is Perplexity AI , whose search engine has been the subject of a much-hyped lawsuit by News Corp for illegally sourcing content from The Wall Street Journal and The New York Post , and faces legal threats from other publishers, including The New York Times .
