The origin of Jezebel sauce is unclear, but it could have come from the Gulf Coast (Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Texas). Recipes can be found in numerous cookbooks dating back to the 1950s, and you'll find it on many restaurant menus. The sauce likely gets its name from the "wicked" heat.
For another variation, change it up slightly with a bit of hot pepper jelly or diced canned mild chili peppers or jalapeno peppers. Minced ginger is another possible flavor variation. Look for pineapple preserves and apple jelly at cheese shops, gourmet grocery stores, and online retailers. Or, find a friend who makes their own preserves and jellies and grab a jar or two.Jackyl, Peter Frampton, Cheap Trick, Charlie Daniels and more!
