How can I monitor bot activity on my website?
1. Extremely high number of page views
Bots are usually blamed when a site experiences a sudden, unexpected, and unprecedented spike in page traffic.
2. Extraordinarily increased bounce rate
Bounce rate is the proportion of visitors who land on your site but do nothing while they're there. An unexpected increase in bounce rate may indicate that a bot has already redirected to a page.
3. Unexpectedly long or short session duration
The time a visitor stays on a site is called the session duration. Human nature wants this to remain constant. However, an unexpected increase in session length can be caused by an unusually slow bot surfing the site. Conversely, if the session duration is short, a bot may be able to crawl a web page much faster than a person.
4. Waste conversion
An increased percentage of fake conversions can be used to identify spam conversions, which show an increase in profile creation with unreasonable email accounts or filling out web forms with fake names, mobile numbers, and addresses. Visitors are increasing from surprising places.
Another common sign of bot activity is a spike in web traffic from a particular geographic region, especially where there is suspicion that a native speaker speaks the language used to build the site.
