Apple calls Epic Games an “unreliable” developer

Post by tasnimsanika00 »

Apple and Epic Games continue to be at odds and it doesn't look like they're going to smoke a peace pipe anytime soon. After the European Union's (EU) Digital Markets Act (DMA) forced the apple company to open the iOS operating system to third-party applications and a couple of weeks ago Epic Games boasted that Apple had given the green light to its developer account for iOS, the company led by Tim Cook has decided to delete the Fortnite parent company's account.

And the reason for the block would be a tweet in which Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games , launched fierce criticism against the Cupertino company. "Apple is retaliating against Epic Games for speaking out against the unfair and illegal practices of the apple company, just as it has done with other developers time and time again," the video game company emphasizes in a post published yesterday on its corporate blog . Apple apparently cited a tweet from Sweeney as one of the main reasons for blocking Epic Games' account.

In the tweet, Sweeney dared to question Apple's values , urging it to make visionary decisions to become the company it advertises, "a brand loved by consumers, a partner to developers, and no one's boss."

In his tweet, Sweeney also criticised Apple's monopoly on app stores, digital payments and browsers. The Epic Games CEO accompanied his X message with a photograph of Apple founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak working together on one of the American multinational's first personal computers.

"I don't want to think of Apple as an evil company. That would be really inconvenient," Paul Graham , founder of the renowned startup incubator Y Combinator, said yesterday at X. "But I see more and more signs that power has corrupted those in Cupertino ," he said.

After years of fierce legal battles between Apple and Epic Games, it looked like Fortnite's parent company was finally going to get its way and launch its own app store. Under the DMA, which comes into force this week in the EU, Epic Games has the power to launch its own "marketplace" for video games on mobile devices running the iOS operating system , in direct competition with Apple's App Store. However, what initially seemed like a victory for Epic Games is now in jeopardy.

The Apple company argues that Epic Games is an "unreliable" partner and admits that it is cameroon whatsapp lead concerned that the company led by Tim Sweeney "is not adhering to its contractual obligations with Apple." The Cupertino company reportedly informed the video game company of its decision in a letter dated March 2 that Fortnite's parent company made public last Wednesday.

In a statement to Gizmodo, Apple says that a US court has given it the right to break with Epic Games or any of its subsidiaries at any time because the company had blatantly breached its contractual obligations. And now it is simply exercising this right, Apple stresses.

When Apple and Epic Games faced off in court, Sweeney testified that his company had deliberately broken the agreement governing the Cupertino company's developer program in order to highlight the iPhone maker's bad practices. Apple is now asking Sweeney's company to prove its trustworthiness before allowing it to develop its own app store for iOS , which is apparently a threat to its own ecosystem.

It is unclear how the conflict between Apple and Epic Games will end in light of the new DMA , which ultimately aims to encourage competition and put obstacles in the way of monopolies. Epic Games argues for now that Apple is once again displaying absolutely abusive power over developers.
